Ni realm,, at Kketahuna ; Ballauce v. Konini, at Ballance; Athletic, a. bye. WIN FOR. ATHLETJC TKIRDS. The Athletic thirds journeyed to Kketahuna yesterday and defeated the local team by eleven points to three. Played in the rain on a sodden ground the game developed into a forward tussle although at times Hashes of bitilliance by both sets of backs were by no means lacking, in spite" of the greasy ball. Sheer determination on the part of Athletic enabled them to carry the day against- a heavier team. For greens the outstanding players were Cosford, Wilton, B. Miller and “Snowy’ : Kershaw, while Rowden, Olsen and Reynolds were the pick of the home team. Both teams to a man played good clean football. From the kick-off by whites greens pressed hard and white forced down. Greens kept up the pressure and were in a very dangerous position when a green man infringed, enabling white to clear. A penalty kick by greens fell short, but following up fast greens packed round and Davies dribbled over to score for Athletic. Vibert converted a splendid goal from close to touch, making the score: Athletic s—o. Shortly after, a further try came to Athletic when N. Wilton snapped up the ball, then to Mills, to B. Miller, to ■Cosford, to V. Wilton, who dived over by the corner flag. Vibert messed with tbei kick. Greens continued to keep up the pressure, but Rowden, the Old Boys first fiveeighth, time and again saved. Halftime was called shortly alter. From tile kick-off Old Boys set a great pace and were pressing on the greens’ line for a quarter of an hour’s play. A penalty to whites missed. Shortly after the bustling Old Boys forwards were rewarded by N. Green scaring from a scrummage, but failed to convert: B—3. Greens then turned the tables and set up the pressure, and by following up fast V. Wilton again scored. The kick at goal failed and the game ended shortly after with the score 11—3 in favour of Athletic. Mr Parsons .refereed the game. MANGATAINOKA JUNIORS. The .following players will represent Mangatainoka. Juniors against Hukanui at Hukauui on Saturday:— Kckort, Dick, Robertson, Kerri sun, Matthews, Wright. Ansin, Cavauagh 2, Tait. Alpin, Hannah, Foster 2. ]>n nk water, Scott. Players a.re roepmstod to moot at flu- Mangatainoka store at 12.45 on Saturday.
