FARMERS’ UNION.
SECOND EDITION
THE ANNUAL MEETING. FINANCES VERY SOUND. The annual meeting oi the Pahia*tua Branch of the Fanners’ Union was held in the Commercial Hotel yesterday afternoon. The president, Mr G. H. Hodd occupied the chair and there was a very large attendance of members. The annual report read: — . ‘‘ln presenting the annual report and balance-sheet for the year ending 30th April, 1935. >our executive has pleasure in refolding the most successful year in the history ot the branch. The membership is amazingly good, there being no fewer than 275 financial members, while the financial position must be considered eminently satisfactory, the balance-sheet disclosing a credit of. £34 lOs tki on the year’s working. During the year six meetings of the branch were held, while lectures were delivered by Mr Bruce Levy, Mr J. Mcllwaiu and Mr S. Freeman. Mangold and ensilage competitions were held, while a local farmer, Mr W. Olsen, was successful in annexing the Sutton Cup for the best crop of swedes grown in the Wairarapa district.

The election of officers resulted a© follows;
President. Mr E. S- Heckier. Mr G. H. Hodd and Mr J. H. Bremner who were nominated both declined the honour.
Mr Heckler then took tbe chair and returned thanks for the honour bestowed upon hjm. at the same time asking for the a distance and support ue every member to. help the movement along. Mr Bremner moved that a special minute be placed on the books acknowledging the Union's appreciation of the services of Mr Hodd a& President.
This was seconded by Mi H. Cotter and carried by acclamation.
Mr Hodd fittingly returned thanks. He said he was honoured by th© sentiments expressed by the speakers
Mr James Watson Wairarapa Provincial Secretary, spoke on the good work done by Mr Hodd and said it was customary tor retiring officers to attend the annual meeting at Masterton and he hoped Mr Hodd would be present, as he felt sure a further appreciation of Mr Hodd’s services would be registered there. Acting upon Mr J. E. Hewitt's suggestion the meeting unnmmousTy decided to instruct, the secretary to keep «i record of- the number of executive meeting* each member attends during the year. In this way it could be readily seer, which men were interested in the affairs of the Union.
