THE TOWN GROWING.

MORE LIGHTS AND FOOTPATHS. Three residents, Mr R. L. Darley, Mrs Laura Mason and Mr L. D. Beech, wrote to the Borough Council on Monday evening as. follows: “We, the undersigned, herewith make application for a light- to be placed on the corner of King Streetand Huxley Street. There arc now three houses which would lienefit from this light and permit for a fourth house has already been granted and the house will be erected shortly. This corner is, we believe, the only one in Huxley Street which is without a light and there are fewer houses oai many of the other corners.

“We also make application for the formation of a footpath from King Street along Huxley Street to the house occupied by Mrs Mason. This path will furnish access to three houses, Mrs Mason’s, Mr Sheppard’s (at present occupied by Mr R. L. Darley) and a house to be built shortly by Mr Beech.

“We notice that in all other places where new houses have been erected that you have granted them a footpath and we trust you will give this above application favourable consideration.”

Cr. J. W Sturton : “A light is very necessary there ”

The Mayor (Mr J. 1). Wilson): “’This should he referred to the works committee.” He added that the fact that new houses were going up altered the position. On tlie motion of Cr. W. T. Brown, seconded by Or. T. W Watts, it was decided to refer the matter to the works committee with power to act. Mrs H. Delahanty advised that she had just moved into town and was residing in Sedcole street. The footpath in front of her residence was formed but not tarred and as nc-w buildings wore l>eing erected in the vicinity she asked the Council To consider putting the footpath in order.

The matter was also referred to the works committee with power to act.
