CANCER CAMPAIGN.
APPEAL FOK FUNDS. The British Empire Cancer Campaign Society wrote in a circular letter to the Borough Council on Mon day ev en i ng: “We trust that you will give your support to the King’s Jubilee gift which by his favour allows every citizen to honour the King’s reign and help himself against the cancer scourge.
“Will you so far as you are able bring the claims of the Royal Jubilee Fund before your Council and the people of your district. “Donations are receivable at any Post Office or at our head office, address 212 Lambton Quay, Wellington . ’ ’
The Mayor (Mr J. D. Wilson) said he hoped the people of Pahiatua. would not be slow’ in finding their share of the subscription required to conduct the campaign. The disease was rather a serious one in New Zealand and it was a good thing the campaign was being pushed on. He hoped that support would be generous, particularly when His Majesty the King had made a gift towards the fund himself. The postmaster (Mr R. Oairrad) at the local Post Office had, he understood, received one or two donations already.
