BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING.
APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEES. (Correspondence is welcomed on interesting subjects, but we do not necessarily endorse tbe opinions of correspondents. > (To tbe Editor.) Sir,—So tbe “uew blood” we selected at the recent borough elections are not to be allowed to function as we had hoped ? _ Are we to be doomed to disappointment? I hope not. If at first they don't succeed, they must try, try and try again. j\. re the old forces at work to airouse their despair ? If so they will have to contend with the will of the people, so recently and so strongly indicated. The memories of the people are not so short as all that. Is it the Mayor’s objective to empty out the new babes, with the hist bath-water, because he considers they are unwanted ? Surely not! My point is made if I have convinced the burgesses that we cannot allow such an inalienable right as we possess to be belittled and justice sullied at the very source. One of the new Councillors at least should have been put on the works or recreation committee instead of being ignored in preference to men who polled far fewer votes. The whole thing looked very obvious to me, sir.
I recommend the Mayor to look upon the burgesses’ representatives as our selection—rather than as mere ninepins, to he knocked down as he thinks fit.—l am, etc.,
‘WATCH DOG.” Pahiatua, May 14, 1935.
