GOLF MATCH.
HAMUA v. MAKAREWA. At the week-end the Hamua Golf Club played a return match with Makarewa Club at Jliuraua. The weather was perfect, and in spite of previous heavy rain the links were in excellent order. The visitors were most hospitably entertained by Makarewa. Mr Hodgins, in extending a hearty welcome on the occasion of Hamua’s first visit to the Valley, hoped that it would be the forerunner of many more. Mr J. B. Carruthers acknowledged the welcome and returned "the thanks of the visitors for a most pleasant afternoon. The following were the results (Hamua players being firstmentioned) : Men’s Singles: Brookes beat Bicknell, 3 and 2; Carruthers lost to Judd, 3 and 2 ; Dougherty lost to Newland, 2 and 1 : McKenna and ."Weston, all square* Delaliantv beat Hodgins. 5 and 4; Dagg and J. McDonald, all square; Twentyman lost to Ryan, 4 and 3; Lawrence lost to McKay, 2 and 1 ; Watkins lost to A. McDonald, 3 and 1. Four-ball: Brookes and Carruthers beat Ilioknell and Judd, 2 and 1 ; Dougherty and McKenna lost to Newland and Weston, 3 and 1; Delahanty and Warner beat Hodgins and Nielsen, 6 and 5; Dagg and Twentyman lost to J. McDonald and Ryan, 4 and 3*. Lawrence and Watkins lost to McKay and A. McDonald, 2 and 1. Ladies: Miss Warner beat Mrs Brunton, 3 and 2 ; Mrs R. J. Smith lost to Mrs Weston, 1 down ; Miss Henderson beat Mrs Bennett, 1 up ; Mrs W oil an cl and Miss Percy, all square; Mrs Carruthers beat Mrs Heckler, 4 and 3. Totals: Hamua, 8; Makarewa, 9; three games all square.
