WOODVILLE.
The 'Woodville branch of the W.D.F.U. met lately. Mrs J. Halpin presided. After the business was concluded a very interesting and instructive demonstration oh beaten copper work was given by Mr 'Fetch, of Palmerston North. Miss P. Hanaray proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Fetch. The competition for the afternoon was the most useful article made out of 3oz of New Zealand wool, the winners being Mrs James I, Mrs Maxwell 2. In a mystery bag competition, which was very amusing, three ladies tied for first, Mil’s MeCool proving the winner on the draw. A dainty afternoon tea was handed round, the hostesses being Mesdaiies Elder, Gallon, and Miss Gardner. Four new members were welcomed.
There was a large attendance of members of the Hope of Woodville Tent. Onward Tent (Palmerston North) and friends at a banquet to celebrate the fifty-fifth anniversary of the Woodville branch of the Inclepent Order of Recliabit<?s. After full justice had been done to an appetising supper, which was served by the sister members of the tent, the Chief Ruler, Bro. L. Cotter, passed over the proceedings to Bro. E. J. Harding, who acted as chairman for the lengthy toast list and items which followed. As a fitting conclusion to the banquet, Sister E? M( Kinlay presented Bro. Fathers with a handsome bouquet for Mrs Fathers, who, tli rough sickness, was unable to be present, and asked him to convey to her tbe tent’s heartiest greetings. After the banquet a short social was held when games and dancing were indulged in and a happy function terminated about midnight.
