FARMING NOTES.
Representatives of various local bodies and district organisations at a meeting this week decided to set up a committee for the purpose of endeavouring to have a pre-Christ-mas wool sale held in Wanganui in 1934 and following years. The high percentages of lambs m the Woodville district is reflected in Mr W. McCona ghty 7 s (Papafcawa) flock, where three ewes are rearing ten lambs. Two of the ewes have triplets and the third has quadrujilets. All the lambs are doing well.
Bidding was spirited at the clearing sale held at Mr D. McGregor s farm when a fairly large attendance was present, says the Woodville Examiner. Cows made from £0 to £9 10s, weaner heifers £2 14s, while a sow and litter realised £7 10s. All increasing number of boys going to farm jobs is reported by the Otago Vocational Guidance Association’s officer (Mr T. Conly). Conditions for boys on farms are now vastly improved from what many experienced years ago. The best homes in Otago are now open right type of boy, and the present trend is encouraging confirmation of tli is. Farmers gladly employ these well-educated and acceptable lads, who will in due time themselves make the best of farmers and station managers.
First batches of butter for the new season have already been sold by the Wangaebu and Okoia dairy factories (Taranaki). ft is understood that a price of lOfd per lb lias been received. Tins, it was stated, was the highest 7n ice being paid in New Zealand by Home buyers at present, and it bad been deemed advisable to accept it in view of the problematical state of the market at Home in two months’ time. Both factories have sold their stocks on band, and forward selling is not being carried out at the present time.
