TRANSPORT POLICY.
Transport policy gave rise to an extended discussion at the meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. The principal decision reached was that the Commissioner of Transport (Mr J. S. Hunter) should be invited to visit Masterton and address members of the Executive and others interested on a date to be arranged. In view of this invitation, no detail resolutions were passed. The Executive held over for consideration at its next ordinary meeting the following remit from the Tiraumea branch: “That this Executive protests that the Transport Regulations as now laid down tend to still further embarrass the rural taxpaver, and further that the fixing of minimum charges and curtailment of competition are opposed to the best interests of the country as a whole.”
A letter from the (Jastlepoint County Council supporting the Tiraumea remit was also held over for later consideration.
