COMMENDABLE MOVE.

BEAUTIFYING COUNTRY ROADS Electric Telegrapli—J-ress A esociatiou CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 18. To beautify country roads by tree planting is one of the main objects of the new Beautifying Association formed at a public meeting, presided over by the Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan, to-day. The objects, in addition to roadside tree planting on long stretches of bare roads in Canterbury, will include securing wayside stopping places, the preservation of native bush and the protection of native birds. The plan is that the actual work be done by local bodies, but the association will act in an advisory capacity drawing up plans.
