OBITUARY.
The death has occurred at Putiki of Mrs Emma Hipango, a highlyrespected Ala or i lady of rank. Wife of the late All* Waata Wiremu Hipango, the donor of Hipango Park, she was well known in the Wanganui district, and among the Ottawa tribe at Waitara. The death has occurred iu tlie Napier Hospital of a member of a well-known Wairarapa family, and an early resident of Grey town—Air Hart Udy—at the age of 74 years. The late Air Udy was born in Greytown and followed the calling of blacksmith there for many years. Miss Euleen Ailsa McDonald, who was killed in a motor accident in Ivonini Road, Hataitai, on Sunday evening, was the only daughter of Air and Mrs W. G. McDonald, of Wellington. Air AlcDonald is a wellknown business man, and was formerly chairman of tlie Board of Trade. Miss AlcDonald was 33 years of age, and was a member of tlie staff of the secondary department of the Martinborough District High School. The funeral of the late Air Alfred Thurkettle took place in Wellington on Sunday afternoon. As deceased was a deacon of the Congregational Church, Cambridge Terrace, a service was held there, conducted by the minister. Rev. Harry .Johnson. Over 500 friends of deceased gathered to pay their last, respects. Air Thurkettle had been ail officer of the Salvation Army for thirty-five years, withdrawing six years ago when occupying the position of major. A representative of tlie Salvation Army headquarters, Colonel Toomer, spoke at the church service, and the Army Band led the funeral march, playing the “Dead Miarch” and other appropriate music. At the graveside tlie Atasonio Lodge was represented. Mr Thurkettle leaves a widow, two sons, and a daughter.
