United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. rnl LONDON, July 7. 1 liere was a sensation in the championship when Sarazen’s score at the short 11th hole, where his tee shot was bunkered, was unprecedently challenged by a steward, who declared that Sarazen took seven, whereas the caddie and Sarazen agreed that he took only six. Sarazen requested an investigation and. stated, he only made a characteristic gesture, waving his club after his second stroke, to help the bail along. The committee decided that six was correct, but Sarazen, perturbed, says he is through with the championship, suggesting that he mav not continue. A thrilling fight for the c hampionship is promised from the 61 who qualified for the last two rounds. The Americans, Hagen and Dudley, lead the field, but a number of British players have a chance of capturin g the event. To-day’s greatest effort was Mitchell’s 68. Duncan had a tragic experience. He was one under fours for 13 holes and then made such a mess at the fourteenth that he took ten to hole out. with the result that he tailed to qualify, as .did also C. Whitcombe and the American. Burke. Recoxd galleries followed the leading players. Sixty-one scorers of 152 and under qualified for the final rounds.
