APPLICATIONS FOR LICENSES CONSIDERED.

At Thursday’s sitting in Palmerston Xorth of the Xo. 6 Transport Licensing Authority a number of additional cases were heard. JVXr G. A. Troup presided, while also present were Messrs W. J Armstrong and S. Jic-kell. Mr W. Scbierning, district traffic manager, Wellington, represented the Railway Department. Application was made by G. E. O. Gleeson (Pahiatua) for a goods license covering operations on all roads in the .Pahiatua county, with one truck, and for a seasonal license for the transport of live stock. An objection was lodged on behalf of P. J. Matthews on the grounds that the applicant allegedly carried goods at about 50 “per cent, below what were recognised as current rates for the district. It was stated that Mr Matthews did not object to competition as -long as prices were uniform. Applicant replied that he was ready to accept a fixation of transport rates. He was granted licenses tor both trucks. A direct route license was sought by E. W. Osborne (Pahiatua) for a petrol tank wagon in the Wairarapa Xo objections were raised to this, a new application, which was granted. E. C. Cavanagh (Pahiatua) asked tor an area license for one vehicle in the Pahiatua, Eketahuna. Mauriceville, Dannevirke and Woodville counties, for timber cartage. j his was granted. Mary Elizabeth Payne, Mangatainoka., asked for an area license under which dairy produce would he delivered to the railway station and farm goods transported m that district. The license was granted sub jec-t to a possible rise ill the freight charge. At yesterday’s sitting. H. C. Webster, Pahiatua. asked for an area license which would extend to IVaiagawi. The loads would be timber from the hush. The rest of tins _ area would be 40 miles from i ahiatua in any direction. The license was granted to embrace the hketahmia and INTauriceville Counties, that in the ]VTasterton area to last, over for six months. -^ r Conway, Pahiatua, was granted r> route and area license on the production of further evidence which had been requested, although he was forbidden to use a trailer. R. D. Yeoman, Mikuri, asked for nr, area license for the Akitio, i alnatua, and Eketahuna counties and tor a route license from these counties to Wellington. The licenses wore for one 6J-ton over-all vehicle to run m the area and to Wellington. \\ 00l was carried and general store goods.
