The addresses of dozens of persons who have been acting as agents for lotteries have been placed on the banned list by the New Zealand postal authorities during the last few months. Strike conditions ill Napier and Hastings are still more or less where they were a week ago, though there is an apparent growing desire on the part of the men of both towns to return to work. An audacious burglary was carried out- at the residence of Dr. Cyril King in Fitzherbert Avenue, when an intruder entered bis house and removed a sum of money from the pockets of a- suit. Over 200 pairs of hoots liave been distributed weekly to unemployed workers in the Palmerston North district since the supply was made available in this district. Over 596 pairs have been distributed. In the Magistrate’s Court at Masterton yesterday, Pukepuke AVanmna a member of the Gladstone football team, was fined £7 foi assaulting James Henry Morris, a member' of the Ma.sterton football team during a match between tbe two teams at Mnsterton, Judgment was given at Gisborne for defendant with costs amounting to IS guineas in the case in which Mary Ellon Lanigan claimed £IOOO from Ralph Christian Murphy, sheepfarmer. The case, which was heart in the Arbitration Court, arose from the death of William Lanigan, hotelkeeper, who was injured while orutohing sheep for defendant and died the same day.

A clearing; sale of a dairy herd will be held at Ngawapurua next Wednesday, when 80 first-class young dairy cow>, will be offered on account of G. F. O’Rourke.

With a view to assisting the unemployed of Masterton a scheme lor housing relief workers and their families was outlined by Mi A. Roxburgh, of Masterton, at a well-at-tended meeting. Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., presided. A committee was set up to consider the scheme and bring down a report.

In winding up the Foreign Affairs debate in the House of Commons the Foreign Secretary, Sir John Simon, expressed regret that, in some respects, not enough attention had been paid to the Four Power Pact, which he believed would be realiy a valuable contribution in the direction of assisting and promoting peace in Europe.

The annual meeting of the WooJville Gun Club was followed by a dinner. During the evening a number <*f vocal items were given, those contributing to tli** programme including Messrs C. E. B. As the outcome of the burglary at Mr A. O. Powell’s store at Manakau on June 30, the three arrested men, Samuel Jamieson McKee, George William Attewell and Joseph Trevor Dunn, appeared at the Levin court, yesterday, before Messrs P. W. Goldsmith and E. S. Lancaster, J’s. P.. on a charge of breaking and entering the store with intent to commit theft. They pleaded guilty, and were committed to the Supreme Coui*t at Wellington for sentence.
