PAHIATUA RETURNED - SOLDIERS

A well attended meeting of the local returned soldiers was held m the Oddfellows’ Hall last, evening, despite counter-attractions, when they met to consider the advisability of reviving the local Association, and the disposal of Poppy Day proceetis. The matter of the local Association was first dealt with and it was decided to hold a re-union evening early in August, the arrangements for which were left in the hands of five of those present, and-at that gathering to enrol intending members As it Is considered there are at least 100 returned men in this locality a. good strong membership should be possible. The date and further particulars of the social evening to be announced later. . -After considerable discussion it was resolved to use Poppy funds to employ returned men, who are out of work, on a fifty-fifty basis with local residents who are willing to give casual employment to these men, and instructions were given for a notifieation calling for applications from prospective employers and unemployed returned men' to be published. A committee was also set up to deal with tliis business. After the exchange of a few remiriiscenses the meeting adjourned firmly determined to put the Pahiatua Returned Soldiers’ Association, again on the map.
