The feeling in Labour circles is that Monday’s conference of coalowners and miners’ representatives will again be abortive and that the miners are in a stronger position to resist a compromise than heretofore by reason of the stiff levies to be imposed upon all unionists by the trade union conference for their sustenance. RAISING MONEY FOR UNEMPLOYED RELIEF. MELBOURNE, This Day. The State Parliamentary Labour Party approved of Cabinet’s proposals for unemployment insurance. It is now proposed, pending the opeiation of such legislation, to raise £350.040 by special income and a property tax for the relief of unemployed, at a rate of }d in the £1 on incomes derived from personal exertion and Id in the £1 from the property. Income tax will be levied on single men earning £2OO a year or over and married men £*3oo" or over.
