WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

MA NG A T AIN OK ABB ANCH. The annual meeting of the above was held in the Mangatainoka Library Hall on Wednesday. Miss Reid presided. The president read a report of the past year’s work, and thanked all those who had helped to make the work a success. On the motion of Mrs Morris and Mrs Alsopp, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr V. Redmond was unanimously reelected auditor. A lengthy discussion ensued on the proposal to revert the day of meeting to Thursday. On a show of hands, the latter day was most favoured, and in future the meetings will be held on a Thursday. On the motion of Mrs Kelly and Airs Pilkinton, a lady was appointed to make inquiries in regard to hall matters and report accordingly. Mrs Walker was, on the proposition ol Aliss Reid and Airs Alsopp, nominated for the executive of the Wellington Provincial Federation. Airs Cook and Airs Williams were appointed delegates to the annual meeting of the Federation. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs Walker; committee, Aliss Kelly, Airs Tait. Airs Morris. Airs Kerrison. Airs Redmond. Airs Howell. Airs Milne, Airs Bioknell, Miss Reid. Airs Bauekhan and Airs Pruigle acted as scrutineers. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs A. Kerrison in her recent bereavement. and the secretary was instructed to forward a letter of condolence to her. It was decided that the potato patch be dug between I.7th and 22nd inst., Airs Walker to witness the digging and weighing. After some discuss on, members decided to have cakes bought for the meetings, each to pav 6d for afternoon tea, any surplus to he devoted to tlie* Institute fund. Airs Milne’s proposal regarding every third member exchanging seats at meetings was seconded by Airs Allsopp and carried. During the proceedings. Airs Morris presented tlie president and secretary with beautiful and original posies made of nmrznpans and Dennison paper and her thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated. Airs Milne kindly supplied the music*. The sing ng of tlie National Anthem concluded a very successful meeting.
