MORPETH DEFEATS CHAMPION HORTON BEATEN BY FAAVCETT United Press Assn —By Electric Telegraph—-Copyright. MELBOURNE, August 5. At golf during tlie week-end, Sloane Morpeth, 74, defeated Reg Jupp, approximately 78, the champion professional, in an eighteen bole match. In the second round to-day, Morpeth, six up and five to play, defeated Morrison; Ryan (A ictoria) six up and five to play, defeated Ross; Fawcett (New South Wales) one up, defeated Horton. The conditions for play were bleak and wintry. Alorpeth putted well throughout. Once he sliced into the rough. In a tearing shot to get clear lie hit two balls out, one his own and another, which was a lost ball, lying unnoticed alongside. Horton was unreliable in his short shots. The match will commence at 1.30 p.m. MASTERTON AND EKETAHUNA Honours were easy in a friendly match played at Eketahuna during the week-end by teams representing the Masterton and Eketahuna golf clubs. Each team .won eight matches and a number of other games were all square. The visiting Masterton players were very pleasantly entertained by tlieir Eketahuna liosts at morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. A return visit will be paid by the Eketahuna club towards the end of September.
