HISTORIC MEDALLION

DOMINION DAIRY PRODUCE. The. first award Won overseas for New Zealand dairy produce is a medallion from the Melbourne Exhibition cf 1888, tiie lnEinutaotyrers being the Greytown Co-operative Dairy Company, the company which pioneered the co-operativo" system in 1883. The successful exhibit was cheese. The medallion has remained in the possession of Mr E. H. Wood, of Takapuna, one of the original shareholder's, who subsequently bought out the factory. In a recent interview in the Auckland Herald ho stated lie was prepared to hand it over to any'public body that might appreciate its historical value. Th© authorities of the Massey Agricultural College approached Mr Wood on die matter, it being mentioned >that the college proposed to establish a collection of plant, photographs, etc., connected with the early history of the dairy industry. Mr Wood at once., forwarded the medallion to the college. In acknowledgment Professor W. Riddett. dean of animal husbandry, says: “This is invaluable, and is much prized at the college. It will make a most acceptable, addition to our collection, and will, I am sure, stimulate the young factory managers who attend classes here, to. add to the great work of those, who. have in the past built up suc-h a wonderful dairy industry.”
