PALESTINE RAILWAY
DESERT BLOSSOMS LIKE THE ROSE. Electric Telegraph— 1 ress Association LONDON, December 20. The “Times” Port Said correspondent- states that the latest example of making the desert blossom like the rose is the new town of Port Fuad on the Suez Canal, opposite Post Said, named in honour of King Fuad, who formally inaugurates it to-morrow. Port Fuad had arisen owing to the decision of the Suez Canal Company to erect workshops in the Asiatic Bank buildings, used in war time as an hospital, after which the former plan developed. The barren sands are now replaced by pleasant villas among gardens for the staff, beflowered public gardens and shady avenues. It is hoped that Port Fuad will become Port Said’s residential quarter and pleasure resort. It is also proposed that Port Fuad be the terminus of the Palestine railway, instead of Kantara.
