THE BETTER TESTIMONIAL
MR HARRIS’ STAND IN PARLIAMENT. Electiic Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, September 27. Speaking at a meeting of the \Yalternate Chamber of Commerce, in regard to the testimonial to Mr Alex Harris, Mr G. H. Mincbin. the new-ly-elected .president, said that be had. the greatest admiration for iheir member, but if lie bad been Mr Harris be would have resigned and submitted himself to the electors as soon as the Hon. .J. G. Coates had taunted him in the rather tactless way he had done with regard to his leaving the party. The greatest tribute they could have paid to Mr Harris, the biggest testimonial they could have given him, was to have had a chance tc re-elect him as their member after ho had put up his strenuous fight on their behalf. Other members said that. while they had never supported Mr Harris previously, if lie had resigned they would have supported him on this occasion, because they approved of his recent action in the House of Representatives.
