SELECTORS APPOINTED
PARATA AND HARRIS TO ACCOMPANY MAORIS.
Electric Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, May 26.
At a meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, a discussion took place as to whether a member of a management committee had the power to report a player for rough play. Opinions differed. Mi- S. S. Dean asked if the English Rugby Union would uphold it? It would have been a good thing in the Erownlie incident if the referee had seen the instigation of the act. It was generally admitted that the referee was the sols judge. To change would be adopting a dangerous principle. Otago had such a by-law, but the best they’could do was to send the matter to the Appeal Committee.
The following selectors were chosen for the inter-island match: —
North: E. McKenzie (Wairarapa) convener, N. A. McKenzie (Hawke’s Bay), A. Guy (Taranaki). ’South Island: A. Goddes (Otago), O. A. Banner (Southland), H. Davis (Canterbury) convener. Messrs E. McKenzie and A. Geddes. are to select the New Zealand team to tour Australia. It was decided that it was impracticable to have an inter-island match between the minor unions, but would endeavour to arrange it next year.
Messrs Dean, E,. NVylie and T. Fletcher were appointed a sub-com-mittee to consider the South African tour qf 1928. Messrs E. Parata and H. Harris (Dunedin) were appointed managers of the Mao i team for France. Mr Harris to attend the Imperial Rugby Conference.
