Mr E. A. Shrimp-ton, Chief Telegraph Engineer announces that an order has been placed for a. cable to be laid between the North and South Islands, so -as to give proper telephonic communication. It will be over a year before the work is completed, but the. system adopted will permit people in Invercargill to. be heard clearly by people, in Auckland. The Tiitanekai will be! equipped for the purpose of laying the cable which will land on the beach at Seddon (Marlborough).
