SCHOOL DENTAL NURSES.
The school dental nurse is usefully employed in twenty-five different centres in the Dominion. and tlie scheme is so \Vell established that the demand for more nurses is a great deal more than the capacity ot the dental hygiene branch of the Health Department to supply. The first batch of nurses completed thei' training and went into the field aoout the middle of last year. Then a ond batch of trainees went to the Dentr.il Clinic in Wellington, and are well advanced with tlieir two years’ training. Now the Department is appointing fifteen more young women for the training course. The piobationer nurses are paid a salary of £<o
per annum during their two years course, and if they live away from home a further £4O is paid towards cost of board. One of the important conditions of appointment is the signing of a bond that’ the trainee will remain m the service for five years, so that the State may obtain the benefit
of the expensive tuition given to the nurses. The five years include- the period of training, and it is expressly stipulated that marriage is not to be regarded as a valid reason for release from the bond.
