MIRACLES OF HEALINCL In view of the amount of alleviation from .suffering following upon the visit of Mr Hickson to Palmerston North it is, perhaps, interesting r«. learn that an organised effort is now being made iii New York to combine (he healing function with spiritual guidance in the work ol the Church. Recently there was held in that city a notable gathering of divines amt medical men who assembled in the: Church of St. Mark’s-in-thc-Bouwerie to discuss measures for bringing tms combination of functions about. The meeting announced its purpose in t.hc following words: “St. Raur s.-vf that man had a natural body as well as a spiritual body. The Church Has hitherto considered them as separate units. It is our purpose to put these bodies together and make of them a whole • matt —mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually.’’ With this as the text of their discussions, the

gathering: decided upon a movement which will attempt the cure of nervous afflictions through the combination of Church and clinic methods, with the patients’ everyday environment taken into account. It is, lr ' short, an effort to recognise that man has physical, mental, and spirit nal sides to his nature which hi fluence each other ,and which so the assembled divines and doceois stated their belief—can be treated together better than separately in a large number of cases.
