LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Second Edition

Various stunts were held in town, to-day in aid of May Queen candidates.

Ladies desiring pretty and serviceable evening or semi-evening (dinner) frocks, would be wise to pay a visit to Mrs ID. A. Cormack’s “House of Fashion,” where the newest stocks have just been opened up.

An engine and chaffcutter, driven by Mr W. Brown, of Palmerston North, accompanied by another, became stuck in the- ford below McFarlano’s bridge, on the KoniniScarborough road, on Friday morning. Messrs Matthews’ Bros.’ team of six horses was requisitioned, but the. plant would not move. This morning another attempt was made with the team, and aided by its own power the engine was got out and the plant was able to proceed. The engine was being taken from Mastejrton to Palmerston North by Mr Brown, a former resident of this district.
