It was to be understood however, that this would cancel tne existing arrangement for a subsidy of £ for £ up to £B7 10s on subscriptions collected by the society direct from the public.—lt was decided to request tim conference of Head Centres, a lien sitting at Dunedin, to recommend in what manner the. Government subsidy should be allocated. The. cliief secretary of the Royal Life-Saving Society, London wrote enclosing samples of costume badges, one marked “Surf Life Guard” and tlio. other “Award of Merit.” The letter stated it had been decided to i have a bronze medallion awarded for j proved ability to render first aid in I the surf. The medallion is to he in- | scribed. “For life-saving skill with a J surf life-line,” and “Awarded to.” j Having regard toi the fact that every ! surf life-guard holder would be in j possession of the proficiency certificate. no further certificate was proposed. to be issued, and with regard to tlie instructors' certificates it was thought that the. present certificate would suffice. It was announced, that the Gover-nor-General had accepted the position of vice-patron, of the Society.
