EXEMPTION APPLICATIONS.
Applications for exemption before the Military Service Board at Wefyesterday were made by' Waiter Gilbert Short, aged 22 and Earnest E. Short, aged 20, on the* grounds of occupation and undue ? hlp - They are sons of the noted r eildmg breeder. It transpired that Walter was a Vnember of the mam body, though then under age and through pressure by the father left the boat at the last minute because lie had developed pneumonia, Consequently the calling up under section 3o was resented, The Department's of the case was confusing, and one entry in lead pencil, unsigned. purported to show that Walter had been “bought out” for £5. The father denied this. Evidence showed that the two boys were specially gifted in stud work, and the public would suffer through deterioration ot the father’s flock if their services "ere lost. Walter offered to go into camp and Ernest's appeal was adjourned sine die so long as he remains in his present occupation.
