THE O'MEARA MONUMENT.
A telegram was received by Mr J. Bayliss from Airs O’Meara to-dar, stating: “Quite agree to shift monument into town. Letter posted. ' ATr W. Sedoole who writes “on behalf of a- number of subscribers.” ha.- addressed the iollowiug letter to the “Herald ; “l notice in your issue of Alonday last that an informal meeting of the O'Meara Memorial Reinstatement Committee. we- held, at which a very small number attended, yet it seems that Air Brechin got hi- motion carries] to the effect- that the obelisk be taken down and re-erected in one ot the Town Square"*, and another stone erected over the grave. This is altogether a departure from the original object, which was distinctly understood to l>e to re-instate the monument on a solid foundation, and the balance, if any, to be handed ovbr to one of the Patriotic Funds. On t-ho a love understanding money was subscribed which otherwise would not 'have been.”
