DODGING DRILL.

A BATCH OF OFFENDERS

A batch of young men, belonging to both the Mounted and Infantry C’orjis in Pahiatmr, were before the Magistrate’s Court ou various charges of tailing to cany out their regulation* under the Defence Act, which it i* very nece-sary they should do now. when so many of their fellows are sacrificing property, life and limb.

Charles Connell was convicted and ordered to pay costs 14* (id. hi default seven days’ military detention. L. G. Davidson was ordered to pay cost* 7s,

in default seven days: Harold Mxted was similarly dealt with. E. H. J. Miller, who produced a medical certificate was convicted and discharged. Each of the above belonged to tho Mounted Signal Troop and pleaded guilty. G. F. O'Rourke, of the infantry, wa* convicted and discharged. J R. Alexander did not appear, an 1 he was lined Ids and co~t* 7s in default 14 days; James E. Kelly was ordered to pay co*ts 7* in default seven days; R. F. AJaddern. who did not appear, but frankly acknowledged in a letter to the Court that be had forgotten nil about it, was convicted and discharged;'Timothy McCarthy did not appear, and was convicted an l discharged; C. L. Schroeder. did not appear, aud wa* ordered t, > pay caste 7s, in dofault seven days; C. Brannigan pleaded guilty, aud was ordered to pay cost* 7s. in default 7 days; \V illrid Chris. Hope, wild had failed to l egistec and pleaded guilty, was ordered to pay costs 7s 6d. There was. a similar case against M'm. Warmer (Mr McSherry). He plead,d guilty, and was ordered to pay costs 7s in default 7 davs.
