Mr Asquith stated in the House of Commons that martial law would continue in Ireland as a precaution. Ho hoped its disappearance would be speedy and complete. It would be resorted. to only in urgent eases. Mr Lloyd George had several important conferences with the Irish leaders. A highly optimistic, feeling prevails, and it is expected that Mr Lloyd George will make an interim statement on Thursday. Mac Neill has been sentenced to penal servitude for life. fhe Glasgow ‘ Herald'’ asserts that a basis of Irish settlement has been reached. The leaders have agreed to the. Irish Parliament excluding the whole or the greater part of Ulster.

Lord Wimbome. re-called before 1-dc Hardmge Commission, .said he signed all documents on the Chief Secretary's advice. He was not officially consulted respecting their character. He regarded himself rather as a fignrebead.
