As a sequel to an occurrence at the Palmerston North railway station some weeks ago Ellen Fuller was charged before Air Poyntou. S.AI.. at the Alagistrate’s Court yesterday “that she did publish, on January 19th last a statement to the effect: It is always the same with you Britishers. King George is a . The Kaiser is my lord .and master.” The ;xt*oused failed to appear or be represented by counsel It was stated that accused was a Norwegian by birth, but had been a resident in the Dominion for forty years. She was 70 years of age. In imposing a penalty of two months' imprisonment His Worship observed that the case was not one for a fine. In was an illustration of gross ingratitude. Accused no doubt was well treated in the British Dominion and enjoyed all the privileges of citizenship. Her utterances in this abominable case was one for severe penalty and showed the necessity for strict dealing. The chairman of the Hukanui School Committee lias donated a prize for the most popular girl in the school, while a trophy for the most popular boy has been presented by Mr F, G. Moore. The local committee of ladies are continuing to make .sandbags, and will welcome assistance from anyone who desires to lend a hand. Men can help with this work as well as women. The Committee will assemble at the Borough Council Chambers at 2 o’clock on Thursday afternoon, and work will be found for as many as are willing to give their services. Cement, and basic slag hags are still being received. Sugar Rigs are not so suitable for the purpose.
