THE WAIHI RIDING.

PROPOSED SEVERANCE.

The question of the proposed severance of a portion of the Waihi riding from the Akitio and merging into the Weber County was only briefly diseftssed at Saturday’s meeting of tlie Akitio County Council. The Weber County Council wrote further '•fating that it could i ot comply with the request to forward tlie particulars asked for by the Akitio Council, and suggested that the Akitio council refer to the Act under which the Weber County Council was working. The chairman (.Cr. R. B. Robertson) said councillors were conversant with the subject and he did not think they could do anything further until the Weber County Council took action. In reply to a question. the chairman said he could see no just cause why the Waihi ratepayers should leave the Akitio County. Cr. C. Liverton thought the chairman had satisfactorily explained the position to the Waihi ratepayers at the meeting held at Waione on the previous Saturday, and if the result of the voting expressed the opinion of the ratepayers interested, it was evident that they did not now desire to transfer to the Weber County.
