COUNTY COUNCIL.

ANNUAL MEETINGS. ELECTION OF CHAIRMEN. LOCAL RESULTS. The annual statutory meetings of County Councils were' held at noo* to-day, when chairmen were elected for the ensuing year. The members present at the meeting of the Pahiatua County Council were: Alessrs H. Cornelius, T. Hodgins, B. J. Bengsten. C. Avery, J. Alathews. S. Bolton, C. F. Gardner, A. Knox, and J. D. Piper. The Clerk presided. On the motion of Cr. Knox, seconded by Cr. Avery. Air Cornelius was unanimously re-elected chairman for the ensuing year. Air Cornelius, in returning thanks, said ho did not believe in any one councillor monopolising the chair, hut at the same time he considered that the chairman should occupy the offiec for a couple of years at least, a« during the first year he only got into the running of things. He thanked councillors for the way they had assisted him during the past year. The office of chairman was not now so hard as it was some years ago. The present officials made the work much easier, and things ran very smoothly. Cr. Hodgins complimented Cr. Cornelius on liis re-election to the chair. As the chairman liaid said, it was necessary that the chair should be occupied for a couple of years in older to get ideas. Their chairman had ideas, which they were not all agreed upon, but they must give him credit for doing his best for the whole county, and not for any one particular section of the community. He declared that Air Cornelius’ administration compart'd very favourably with that of his predecessors. Committee were appointed as fob lows: —Works: Cns. Mathews, Gardner, Knox, Avery and Bengsten. Finance: Crs Bolton. Hodgins, Piper, Knox. Charitable Aid : Crs. Bolton, Bengsten, Hodgins, Alathews.

In the election of chairman at the annual meeting of the Woodville County Council to-day, Air H. Nelson received four votes and Air D. Hughes four votes. A draw resulted in Air Nelson being elected. Crs. Nelson, Hughes and J. H. Eseott, AI.P., were elected as the finance committee. The salary of the overseer, Air A. H. Lehndorf, was increased from £lB5 to £260 per year. Air Nebon was voted £25 as the chairman’s travelling expenses for the past year. AKITIO. Pongaroa, This Day. Councillor R. B. Robertson was reelected chairman of the Akitio County Council to-day. EKETAHUNA. Eketahuna, This Day. At the annual meeting of the Eketakuna County Council to-day Councillor Joseph Dawson was elected chairman for the ensuing year.
