CHEESE MARKET DULL.
Electric Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, This Day. Cabling from London on tlie 23rd inst. the High Commissioner states : Alutton : -Market steady with very good demand for best quality. A great number of stale carcases of mutton are being placed on the market. No change in prices, viz. : Canterbury 4 5-Bd, North Island 4ld. No prospect of advance on account of freed River Plate selling at 4d to 4gd. Lamb: There has been no alteration in the market since last week, and there is limited demand. Some very good quality amongst new arrivals Australian. Canterbury 5 5-Bd, other than Canterbury 5 3-Bd.
Beef: Signs of improvement in the market. .Moderate supply of cbilled beef on hand. New Zealand hinds 3 3-Bd, fores 2Jd. Butter : The market is very depressed, the buyers holding back. The average price for the week for choicest New Zealand has been 114 s to litis, Australian 11s, Argentine 109=, Danish 1295, Siberian 1275. Shipment of butter and cheeee arrived in good condition by the Corintbic. Cheese: The market is dull with less demand. Average price for the week for finest New Zealand 00s to tils.
Hemp: Market depressed on account advices from Manila of heavy receipts and speculative operations. New Zealand good to lair grade £32 to £32 10s. fair grade £3O 10s for all positions. Fair current Manila, on spot, £32, forward shipment £33. Output from Manila for the week has been 38,000 bales. AVool: The market is stronger. Current quotations for Bradford tops : 301 s low crossbreds Is 3d, 40’s low crossbreds Is 31 d, 44’s medium crossbred Is 4Jd. 50 s halfbreds Is Bd, 50 s quarterbreds Is lid, 69’s merinos 2s 3*d. AVOOL STILL GOING UP. London, Last Night. At tin- Antwerp wool sales there was good competition and an all round advance. Merino prices advanced by 5 to 7 j per cent, and crossbreds to 10 jier cent. An entry of 1767 bales from La Plata was offered. and 1444 sold. Hemp is dull. January-Mareh is quoted at £32 10s. AA’beat is easier on the strength of the finer weather in Argentina and the pressure of sales from Russia. Thirty-six shillings and uinepence is asked for Australian February-March shipments and 37s for -January-Feb-ruary. Dalgety and Company (Wellington) are advised by cable from their London office dated 21st instant, as follows : —Frozen meat: Better demand. Mutton : Market quieter at last quotation. Lamb: Prices l-16d to l-8d low er. Beef: Hiud-quarters, market firm, but prices unchanged; fore-quarters, prices are id higher. New season's Australian, good average lamb, light, old per lb. Tallow : Prices unchanged.
