ATr and Airs Hallidav, and Aliss Halliday, of Alakairo, who have been on a trii> to the Old Country, have returned to the district. Air E. Alatthews of Messrs Alatthews Bros., who lias Iteen incapacitated for the past fortnight owing to a kick from a horse, is now recovering from his accident. Air James Taylor Alaekerras, a well-known merchant, and ex-ehair-man of the Dunedin Harbour Board, died at Dunedin this morning, aged 85. Aliss Derry, matron of the South AVairarapa Hospita. ..; Greytown, has been compelled to resign her position by reason of ill-health. She has been nursing continually for nineteen years. At the Napier Methodist Synod thei examination of Rev. AV. H. Speer as a candidate for ordination was proceeded with. He received a unanimous vote, and was heartily recommended to the ensuing Conference at Auckland f ,,r admittance into the full ranks of the ministry.
