Dining October tile supply of milk to the Grey town Dairy Factory was 97,000 gallons, against 94,000 gallons to a miilar period u! the previous year. He said the Wairarapa was producing the best- and greatest quantity of cheese of any district an the Dominion, and they should see that they built up the very best herds. At Carterton. Mr C. J. Henkes, Chief Government Veterinarian, stated that th" Wairarapa was much more free of tuberculosis than many other parts if the Dominion. The pigs in that district wore now fairly free from tuberculosis and this was largely due bo pasteurising skim milk. Some southern farmers expressed the opinion that the price received by the Poverty Bay tanners for pork is higher than paid in any other diibriet, the pigs being bought locally on dead weight. The pigs in their districts are purchased on live weight, with 27-1 per cent, deduction for offal. The Ohitu price for 8j vears out ot 9 years averaged 4d per lb. the amount for tlie other halfyear being 3id, while in Taranaki th- price dropped to 2|d last season. Even at the latter price several of the factories in Taranaki were unable to -bow a profit and bad to close
