BOWLING

THE SEASON OPENED. The bowling season was formally opened on Saturday afternoon, but owing to shortness of notice and tlie fact not being generally known, there was not a large attendance of members. The President (Air G. A. Burgess) explained that it had been decided to take advantage of the break in the weather. He refe’red to the various competitions which it was proposed to hold during the season, particularly mentioning the interclub competitions, which are to be instituted between the Pahiatua, Dannevirke and Woodville Clubs. Airs Burgess threw the jack across the green and play was proceeded with. The usual match, President v. Vice-Presidents was not played, but some scratch games were played, hut only one was finished. The day was not an ideal one for bowling. The green was in fairly good order considering the heavy rains, but a bit on the heavy side. It has been topdressed and conveniences have also been effected at the pavilion. Afternoon tea was handed round.
