Saturday week was the first time the Avondale Jockey Club lias held a “no-license” meeting, the racecourse being in the Eden electoral district, where no-license was carried at the local option poll last November. It was noticeable (says the Herald) that in the absence of the bar many of the patrons took their own liquid refreshments with them.

He resided at Hamua for three years, and has a fair knowledge of tlie Forty-mile Bush and the wants of the Crown tenants. Air AicLennan claims that his past actions as a member- of public bodies afford sufficient guarantee that the interests of the Crown tenants "ill be well looked after should ho be elected as a member of the Wellington Land Board. Tlie promoters of the bazaar and sale of work in connection with St. Peter’s Church are to be congratulated on the fine weather prevailing today. The drill hall presents an attractive appearance, there being an excellent display of bunting, while tinstalls are loaded with fancy goods, pot plants, farm produce, etc. The bazaar was opened this afternoon, and will be open to-night, to-morrow afternoon and evening, The prices of ad-mission-adults one shilling and children sixpence—should ensure large attendances.
An interesting and attractive pamphlet pertaining to tin- National Dairy Show at Palmerston North lias reached this office. A visit to tlie National Dairy Show spells profitable time to those engaged in the most strenuous phase of agriculaure—the dairy farm and factory. A short vacation and respite to view tlie tine displays of working dairy machinery, to rub shoulders with friends from all parts, at the Dairy Conference discussing matters of import is stimulating to the mind and a help to progress. This by the way; there is another phase. Alueh attention is being given to the products of the soil:—Hoot crops, vegetables, and fruit, gardens, grain and grass seed. Encouraged by past success a really good classification. open t.o all, is set forth in the booklet. Fruit has 27 classes with the Royal Horticultural Society’s medal and £33 in prizes, potatoes 6 classes and Royal Horticultural Society's medal ; 19 classes for field roots with a £3O challenge shield. Hay, chaff, ensilage and grain and grass seeds classes are also enumerated; collections of grasses and weeds, horticulture and home industries. The fat stock division for sheep and . pigs is catered for liberally in cash and challenge cup. The book will be found of interest to either the farmer or horticulttiralist in the many details relating to the above, besides being useful Tor reference as to the .scope of the .show. Copies are free and a post card to the secretary. Ah- J. C. Lane, Box 85, Palmerston North, will procure one.
WHY is SANDER and SONS’ EUCALYPTI EXTR ACT superior to any other Eucalyptus produced? Because it is always safe, reliable and effective. A death was recently reported from the internal use of one of the concoctions which arc now palmed off as “Extracts” and at an action at law a sworn witness testified that lie suffered the most cruel irritation from another, which was sold to him as “just as good as SANDER’S EXTRACT.” Therefore insist upon the GENUINE SANDER and SONS’ PURE VOLATILE EUCALYPTI EXTRACT.
