New York, Alay 3. A destructive tornado swept the State of Tennessee (one of the Central Southern States of the American Union, surrounded by Kentucky, A irginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, and having an area of 42,050 square miles, its mean length being 385 miles, and its mean width 109 miles). Sixty persons were killed. Tlie tornado was even more destructive in the extreme Southern States, where 114 persons were killed.
