BALLANCE NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Arbor Day was celebrated here to the school children, who, assisted bj the teachers, spent the morning ir planting flowers and shrubs, arrang ing and digging garden plots. Muci interest is evinced in this work. The anniversary tea meeting in connection with the Methodist chuicf was held on Thursday evening. As usual, the ladies provided a most sumptuous table, which was patronised by a very large number, the Church being crowded. The Rev. Mr Speer presided at the after meeting. The balance-sheet, read by the treasurer, Mr Tait, showed a credit balance of £1 9s 3d, which is highly satisfactory. The following items comprised the programme, and were well rendered and equally well received:—Anthem, “Jesus of Nazareth." choir; song, “Daddy.” .Mrs Woollass; song, Mrs Speer: duet, .Misses Jolly and Sinclair ; song, “Angels ever bright and fair,” Mr Williamson; recitation, Mr Wm Foster; addresses by chairman and Rev. Mr Woollass. Votes of thanks were accorded to the chief workers and assistants, and to all who had contributed in any way to make the function a success. The epidemic of measles is abating, no fresh cases having been reported, and most of those attacked are now convalescent. Still another old settler is about to depart from us. Mr Jolly has acquired a property near Hastings, and intends moving there shortly. The annual choir social will be held during next month.
