An influential deputation of Catholic-, headed by Archbishop Bourne, waited on the Government and protested that, the, new regulations must >.le-troy the denominational character of training colleges. In replying, Sir H. C. Bannermim (Prime Minister) and Mr McKenna (Minister for Education) maintained the equity ot the l'< gulat ions. They declared that the Government did not desire to impair the present char actio - ot the colleges. It the regulations did destroy the character of the colleges, tbe situation would be reconsidered, but the Government claimed a fair trial of its policy.
