The Ninth Contingent.

Auckland, February 21

There is now a large number of horses in the lines of the Niuth Contingent camp. A start has been made with the establishment of a battalion brass band, and practice will be held regularly. Captain W. F. Henderson who has been in camp for the last week, received [notification to-day that he will receive a commission as captain in command of a squadron of the contingent. Captain Elliott, of the lluntly Kifles, has received notice from the Defence Department, that his application is under consideration.

Trooper Sheean who returned from South Africa by the Wbakatane, lost one leg in an attack on a Boer camp, Kaffir Kraal, and an expanding bullet shattered his right leg.
