The First Test Match. By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Per Press Association. Sydney, December 9. Heavy showers continue to fall, and the wicket promises to be of the gluepot order to-morrow. It is quite possible that tbe umpires may decide that it is not fit to play on. George Giffen's persistency in refusing all entreaties to join the Australian team is the main topic of conversation in cricket circles. Monetary offers made by outside enthusiasts to induce him to play has been refused. Tbe South Australian contingent says the reason for his not playing is not a financial one. This makes the mailer more mysterious.
Bad News for the English Captain. Received at 8.8 p.m. Sn> net, December 9. Sioddart has received news by cable announcing tbe death of Iris mother. The Match Postponed till Saturday. Received at 9 p.tn. Sydney, December 9. The test match has been postponed till noon on Saturday in consequence of tbe wet weather and the unfavorable condition of the wicket. Thu decision was come to late in the afternoon after inspection of tbe pitch by Major Wariiil and a number of both teams and a subsequent meeting of members of both teams.
