NEWS BY TELEGRAPH. [Pbess Association] . Heavy Fines for Sly-Grog Selling. Dunedin, December 9. At Balclutba yesterday Jobn Henev was fined £lO mid costs for selling whisky and £5 and costs for exposing liquor for sale. Margaret lleney was fined £5 and costs for selling whisky. At Dunedin to-day Alex. Owen was fined 80s and costs for drawing beer from a cask at tbe Taieri races without defacing tbe stamp. The Minister of Lands and Judge Kettle. New Plymouth, December 9. Tbe Committee of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday passed a resolution endorsing that passed by the Dunedin and Nelson Chambers as to Judge Kettle, and tbe remarks made by tbe Minister of Lands. Obituary. Auckland, This Day. The TaY'inui brings news of the death of Mrs Baker, wife of me Kev. Shirley Baker, of peritonitis. A large attendance of both whites and natives were at tbe funeral. Petition for Refund. Auckland, This Day. The losers by the late fire have sent a petition to the House asking for a refund of the duty.
