PAHIATUA ATHLETIC SOCIETY.

Annual General Meeting.

The adjourned annual general meeting of the Athletic Society was held in the Club Hotel last evening, the President (Mr H. W. Briggs) in the chair.

The Hon Secretary (Mr W. Tosswill) presented the balance-sheet which showed that the disbursements during the year, including the redemption of the mortgage of £163 Os 6d on the ground held by Mr Logan, of Napier, amounted to £2Bl 17s 6d. The receipts totalled £6l Is Id, and in addition an overdraft of £l7O 16s 5d was guaranteed to pay off Mr Logan's mortgage. The statement of assets and liabilities showed that the latter amounted to £2lO 11s 3d, and the assets to £lB 15s, leaving a debit balance of Ll!>6 16s 3d. On the motion of Mr Baillie, seconded by Mr Stewart, the balancesheet was adopted, subject to audit. ELECTION OK OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follow : President, Mr A. Yule ; Vice-presidents, Dr Gault and Messrs 0. Avery and A. Stewart; Secretary and treasurer, appointment to be left in the hands of the committee who will arrange duties and fix salary; auditors, Messrs Briggs and Tosswill; committee, Messrs W. Brown, G. Bottomley, W. Wakeman, G. Avery, A. McFarlane, H. W. Briggs, W. Tosswill, E. Baucke, and Baillie. OTHER BUSINESS. The Secretary of the Amalgamated Foresters and Knights of Labor Sports Committee wrote applying for the use of the Society’s ground on Boxing Day. Mr Gregory brought up the matter of Trustees, and a lengthy discussion followed. Finally the question of raising a loan or issuing debentures on the ground was referred to the incoming committee to deal with. Mr C. Avery was deputed to arrange for Mr T. Hall to act as caretaker of the ground ; the matter of letting the ground for grazing or otherwise to be left in Mr Avery's hands pending definite arrangements.

Mr Briggs moved that in the face of the Amalgamated Sports being held on Boxing Day the Society hold no sports meeting this year. Seconded by Mr Stewart. After considerable discussion Mr Brown moved That a sports meeting be held as usual on Anniversary Day. Seconded pro forma by Mr Tosswill. The amendment was lost and the motion carried. It was decided to allow the Amalgamated Sports Committee the use of the ground on Boxing Day for the sum of £3 Bs.

The meeting then terminated.
