STOCK REPOBT. Messrs J. Mowlem and Co report: At our stock sale held at Pahiatua on Friday, 29th October, more sheep came forward than were entered. The cattle pens were again crowded out. Bidding under the hammer was dull, buyers waiting for owners to reduce prices. After the sale we managed to quit the sheep that were good in wool, also all the larger steers. We quote: Sheep—Hoggets, to 7s 8d ; empty store ewes, 7s 6d ; forward ewes and wethers. 9s lOd ; forward ewes, 8s 3d. Cattle—2-yr steers, to £2 ss. The most of the young cattle that were in were too poor to suit would-be purchasers. Dairy stock a drug.
On the Ist November we held a sale at Mr T. Blackwell’s farm of his dairy stock. Cows in milk and close on calving, from £4 to £4 15s; yearling heifers, 225. Hfs milk cans also brought good prices.
