A BARONETCY FOR A GARDENER.

A man named Fitzgerald, employed as a gardener, has received a cable announcing his succession to the baronetcy of De Ros by the death of his cousin. The baronetcy is the oldest in England, though not a very rich one. Fitzgerald is a near relative of the Duke of Leinster and cousin of the Marquis of Dufferin. When he came of age he inherited £85,000, which ho quickly spent in horse-racing and other effective ways. As captain of the Royal Irish Rifles, he served in Bechuanaland under Sir Charles Warren, and came to the colonies two years ago, destitute.
