An Auckland Carrier Makes
Things Lively. He Uses a Shot Gun.

Auckland, This Day. Last night Charles Hoodless, a single man about 25 and a carrier, arrived at his lodgings at Mount Edon apparently mad with drink. Ho beat his horse badly, then got a gun and cleared the whole household out, tired at Thomas Hill with a charge of powder, and afterwards at Miss Tempie Hill with a chargo of No. 5 shot. Charlotte Hill, aged 12, locked herself in a room, and was got out by Thomas Hill by the window. With difficulty Constable Made came and secured Hoodless, and with the help in tho house and the aid of Constable Moffitt handcuffed his hands behind his back and strapped his legs. Hoodless was brought to Auckland and charged with shooting at Miss Tempie Hill with intent to do her grievous bodily harm.
Hoodless lias been two years in the colony from Lincolnshire, and is alleged to be violent and dangerous when under the influence of liquor. He liad been sober for three months but got drunk through vexation over business transactions.
