Z antis va, August 29. King Mwanga secretly organised a rebellion of Wag an da natives in Buddu, a district of the protectorate of the Uganda in British East Africa.

Major T. man. Deputy Comrnis siener and Cousul. organised a British force and defeated the rebels.

King Mwanga escaped into German territory, where he surrendered and is detained by the German authorities.

London, August 29. The British authorities intend to proclaim Oiiwangah, the irfam son of Mwanga. to be King of Uganda, with a regency.

The natives of the country are the Waganda, a fine intelligent race of men, under the rule of the notorious King Mwanga. An active missionary pro paganda lias been carried on m the country of late years, with the result tbat the people are divided into two great camps, the Protestants and the Catholics, who each claim about 8000 baptised adherents. Th,rr are also, of CAiurse. the heathen and the Mohammedan sections of the papulation. The latter is uuder Mhogo. the uncle of Mwanga. The population, as a whole, is estimated to be from :<OO,OOO to .'•00.000.
